Guide to Ischia’s Sandy Beaches: Top 10 with Parking

Ischia’s Best Sandy Beaches

While Ischia has rocky coves and pebbly shores, the island also boasts several beautiful sandy beaches perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and family days out. Finding parking can be the biggest challenge during peak season. This guide covers the ten best sandy beaches, with specific directions for reaching each one and practical parking information for both scooters and cars.

1. Spiaggia dei Maronti

The longest beach on the island (nearly 3 km) offers dark volcanic sand and naturally warm patches where geothermal activity heats the ground. Drive from Barano following signs to Maronti. Car parking is available at the western access point for approximately 5-8 euros per day. Scooters can park free in the small lot at the top of the descent. The eastern section near the fumaroles is less crowded.

2. Spiaggia di Citara

Located in Forio near the Poseidon thermal gardens, Citara is a wide, sandy beach facing west — perfect for afternoon sun and spectacular sunsets. A large paid car park serves the beach area. Scooters can often find free spaces along the road above. The beach has both free sections and equipped lido areas with sunbeds and umbrellas.

3. Spiaggia di San Francesco

A small but charming sandy beach in Forio, sheltered by rock formations that keep the water calm. It’s easily reached from the centre of Forio — ride your scooter along the coastal road and park in the designated area near the access steps. Limited car parking is available along the main road. Best visited in the morning when the sun hits the sand directly.

4. Spiaggia dei Pescatori

Right in Ischia Porto, this is the most accessible beach on the island. The sandy shore is sheltered within the harbour area, making it ideal for families with small children due to very gentle waves. Multiple car parks within walking distance. Scooter parking is straightforward anywhere in the port area. Beach bars and restaurants line the shore.

5. Spiaggia degli Inglesi

Named after the English visitors who favoured it in the 19th century, this beach lies just east of Ischia Porto. The fine sand and clear water make it popular, but it’s large enough to absorb crowds. Access by scooter via Via degli Inglesi, with parking at the top of the access path. Limited car parking — arrive before 10 AM in summer.

6. Spiaggia di Chiaia

Tucked between Ischia Porto and Forio on the northern coast, Chiaia is a beautiful sandy cove accessible from the village of the same name. Park your scooter in the village and walk down the long staircase to the beach. Car parking is available but limited in the residential streets above. The sheltered position makes the water particularly warm and calm.

7. Spiaggia di Cava dell’Isola

A wide, sandy beach near Forio popular with younger visitors and surfers. Free parking for both cars and scooters in the large area above the beach. The sand is fine and golden, and the bay catches the afternoon sun beautifully. Several casual beach bars serve food and drinks.

8. Spiaggia di San Montano

Located in Lacco Ameno, this crescent-shaped bay has fine sand and shallow, crystal-clear water. It’s one of the most photogenic beaches on the island. Limited car parking along the access road — a scooter is strongly recommended here. Part of the beach belongs to the Negombo thermal park, but there’s a free public section on the eastern end.

9. Spiaggia di Cartaromana

This sandy beach near Ischia Ponte offers views of the Castello Aragonese and warm underwater thermal springs. Reach it by scooter via Via Cartaromana — there’s a small parking area at the end of the road. Cars can park further up, but it’s a longer walk. The thermal vents in the water make swimming here uniquely warm and pleasant.

10. Lido di Ischia

A well-organised sandy beach on the northern coast of Ischia town, with full facilities including sunbed rental, showers, and beachside restaurants. Easy to reach by any vehicle, with nearby paid parking. The sand is fine and the water shallow, making it another excellent choice for families. Evening events and beach parties are common in summer.

Parking Tips

Scooters have a clear advantage at Ischia’s beaches — they fit into small spaces and can park close to beach access points. If you’re driving a car, arrive before 10 AM in peak season to secure parking. Many beaches charge for parking in summer (2-8 euros per day). Our rental scooters come with a lock and chain, and our cars include a beach kit with a cooler bag and umbrella holder on request.
